Vertical Circus in partnership with the Kalakar Trust India is very proud to announce that it will be hosting a cross cultural contemporary circus project in New Delhi in January and February of 2014.
Australians Catherine Daniel and Carly Sheppard, a highly sought after indigenous Australian artist, will travel to New Delhi to deliver the “Circus with Spice” project. They will work closely with Indian choreographer Vikram Mohan and artists from the Kalakar Trust and Adagio Dance Group.
The Kalakar Trust has provided education and training to marginalised members of society for the last 30 years, ensuring the preservation of India’s cultural heritage in a rapidly urbanising landscape; as well as exposing members to modern and contemporary cultural forms. The Adagio Dance Group works across class and caste presenting mission based dance theatre, members include now sponsored street children, university students and artists from all walks of life.
Over eight weeks we will work with a cast of 30 young people to develop their skills in contemporary circus and indigenous culture. We will build on their existing performance and dance skills. Together we will create a show which will play for free to over 5000 audience members.
We have been successful in our application for funding to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for airfares, artist salaries, freight and marketing. However we still need to raise $10,000 for equipment, trapezes, ropes, carabineers, the outdoor rig, props, costumes and food for artists.
Donate now, to be a part of this life changing reality for the young people of New Delhi!
